Privacy is one of the most important issues when shopping over the Internet nowadays. For some people it is hard to give out their personal e-mail, address, and especially credit card information. Everyone is aware how credit card fraud, spam are hot topics for articles and news these days. You have to know how usually your information is used by online pharmacies, how easily they can give up your information to third parties and what you should be aware of in store’s privacy policy.

Which information do online pharmacies collect?

Usually online pharmacies collect the following information form all their visitors: domain name, IP address, information regarding what pages were being viewed, personal information, provided by a visitor (e-mail address when leaving a testimonial or submitting a question) and length of time spent on the site. All of the information is collected from all visitors and is only stored for few days for statistical purposes.

Each customer also leaves his/her personal data, besides the above mentioned information. Orders forms for medicine require a customer submit his/her e-mail address, phone number, shipping address, billing address and credit card information. These are necessary points in order for you to receive your product.

Is it safe to provide such information?

Your e-mail: you should provide an existing e-mail for your online pharmacy purchase as you will receive an order confirmation (details of your order, contact of support team, etc.). It is very important to check your e-mail after you place an order. If you do not receive a confirmation e-mail you should contact the store’s support right away. Your phone number: many online pharmacies use your phone number to confirm your purchase in order to prevent credit card fraud. If you place an order, which you wouldn’t want to tell your friends and family about, you should give you personal phone number. Some online pharmacies might call you in 2 months to check for the refill. Online pharmacies will not give or sell your information to third parties. It should be indicated in their Privacy Policy.

Your shipping address: make sure that you submit the shipping address as the one you would like to receive your order to. All online pharmacies require your billing address along with your shipping address. So, it is better to double check both.

Credit card information: first of all, check if you information on the order page of the online pharmacy is SSL encrypted (the URL for the shop’s order page should start with https://, not just http://). In most online stores you our credit card data cannot be stored on their servers. Once you submit your credit card information into the order form, it is being sent right away to a processing bank. This means that no one (even online pharmacy) actually sees your credit card data besides you and processing bank.
